ADULT FORMATION
Weekly Scripture Study:
Weekly Scripture Study began in summer, 2009 and, because of its popularity, has continued throughout the year, each Wednesday morning, from 9:30 - 10:30 AM in Dougherty Hall.
The goal for each session is to look at the Scripture readings for the coming Sunday’s Eucharistic celebration.
Those who have already been part of this group have commented how much better they understand the readings because of their time together and how this study through the week makes Sunday Eucharist a more personal, deeper, richer experience because of their increased knowledge of the background of the Scriptures.
Not only has the group continued to meet for two years now, but also for over a year and a half now, members have been sharing in the bulletin some of their learnings so the entire community can benefit from their study. The weekly column is titled, “Reflections from the Pews.”
New members are always welcome. Want to join? Just stop by Dougherty Hall any Wednesday at 9:30 AM.
If you want more information, contact Deacon Claude at 394-1220, extension 15 or at clester@dor.org
Check the CARENOTES display of reading material in each church (on the table in the back of St. Bridget or at the Dougherty Hall entrance of St. Mary).
EPIC: A Journey Through Church History
Beginning the week of July 11, we will be offering a most educational, engaging and insightful study of Church history.
Our identity as Catholics means that we are the inheritors of the deeds of holy men and women who for 2,000 years have built a great civilization and spread the Gospel throughout the world.. Church history is not just the recitations of popes, people, places and events; it is a story of adventure, intrigue, rebellion, reform and devotion. This story is our story; this is our family. If we know our past, and how we fit into the story, we will be better prepared to face whatever may come in the future.
EPIC is a product of Ascension Press. We have been successfully using other studies published by Ascension Press over the last several years in our ongoing Scripture studies. Past participants unanimously chose this title as the next study to pursue.
EPIC is a 20 week seminar; there are weekly DVD lectures by Steve Weidenkopf, a lecturer of Church history at the Notre Dame Graduate School of Christendom College.
EPIC will be offered each Monday, beginning July 11, at 9:30 AM in the first floor living room of the PAC (Parish Administration Center) and again each Wednesday, beginning July 13, at 7 PM in St. Bridget Hall.
The cost of the materials is $30.00 for workbook and materials. Please call in advance of the first session so we can order enough workbooks for each person. Contact Deacon Claude at 394-1220, extension 15 or at clester@dor.org
