Youth Ministry
Youth Ministry Mission Statement
Building on the mission of our parishes to follow the way of Christ in our thoughts, words, and deeds, and to make Christ more fully present in all who live within our community, the Youth Ministry mission is to empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in the world today; to affirm the gifts of our youth and provide opportunities for young people to share their gifts with the larger community; and to meet the religious, spiritual and social needs of all youth with the committed leadership, guidance and support of our parish family, providing an opportunity for our entire faith community to grow together in Christian faith.
Youth Ministry at St Mary's, St Bridget's and in the Diocese of Rochester embraces a comprehensive and multifaceted approach that utilizes the gifts of the entire faith community to minister to, with, by and for young people in grades 6-12. Our goals reflect those outlined by the U.S. Bishops in the 1997 document, "Renewing the Vision":
†To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in the world today.
†To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.
†To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.
In order to achieve these goals we use a team approach that involves both youth and adults in the development, implementation and leadership of programs and events that reach out to young people. If you wish to be apart of this team please email Dawn Burdick at dburdick@dor.org . All of our programs, events, service outreaches and gatherings are designed to support and enhance the comprehensive vision of youth ministry within St Mary's and St Bridget's as well as offer young people a sense of the larger Church of which they are an integral part.
Volunteers who work with our children, youth, or vulnerable adults are required to attend a Creating a Safe Environment Workshop (CASE), sign a Diocese of Rochester Volunteer Code of Conduct, and complete the Criminal Record Check process. If you are involved (or think you might be in the future) please register for CASE.
